Tony Borg (b. 1964) was an effective boxer who has achieved greater prominence as a top-class trainer.

The Cardiff man enjoyed a title-laden amateur career before turning professional in 1983.

Borg’s record in the paid ranks was somewhat mixed, not helped by a serious car accident in 1988 that kept him out for three years.

He returned for three low-key fights in 1991 before retiring with a record of 13 wins and 11 defeats from his 24 bouts.

Borg was soon back in the gym as a trainer at St Josephs Amateur Boxing Club in Newport, and he took the Welsh amateur team to the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games.

He has combined this with professional training, working with the likes of Paul Samuels, Matthew Edmonds, Bradley Pryce and Gary Buckland.
