Sean McGoldrick (b. 1991) became the fourth Welshman to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal for boxing – but he had to wait for his prize.

The Newport bantamweight made it to the final of the 2010 Games in Delhi, but he lost to Sri Lanka’s Manju Wanniarachchi.

The 18-year-old Welshman was presented with the silver medal in India, but Wanniarachchi subsequently failed a drugs test.

McGoldrick had to wait until June 2011 to receive his dues, but he was subsequently upgraded to gold medal status.

The Tony Borg-trained, St Josephs ABC fighter has since gone on to be a regular with the British Lionhearts.
