    I would like to know more about my grandad joe gess

      Hi Melanie, thanks for the post. The short reply would be to say: “So would I!” I’ve come across Joe Gess’s name in a number of boxing books, but all I really know is the information above. You will find him mentioned in a number of books about the era, including the two referenced above, but I don’t know of any dedicated books on Joe or on the boxing booths.

      One of the reasons for producing this website was to keep stories like his alive and, hopefully, to give a place for others to contribute to such tales. If you’ve got any more information to add, I’d love to hear it!

        Hi Sean just found your chat with Melanie from a couple years back thought you might be interested to know my husband Patrick’s grandfather was Joseph Gess we have family here in New Zealand we also have photos and info on the gess family regards Margaret Reid

    My name is Debbi Gess, father Melvin and grandparents Annie and Patrick Gess.
    I think Joe is my great-Grandfather.
    My dad always said he was a booth-boxer
