Tunney: Book review

Another book that will leave you wondering just how its subject, Gene Tunney, is so rarely mentioned when it comes to discussions of boxing’s greatest champions.

Well, he is mentioned. But generally in the context of his ending the career of the ‘great’ Jack Dempsey.

Tunney, of course, schooled Dempsey. Twice.

A cerebral man, the boxing world was never entirely comfortable with Tunney.

But this fine book does much to establish the true character of one of the greatest fighters from the sport’s halcyon days.
