Book review: The Peerless One

  • Gareth Harris, “Jim Driscoll: The Peerless One” (Pontypridd, 2000)

A good, if somewhat mechanical, introduction to the life and career of Jim Driscoll, with a highlight being the access it gives to Driscoll’s own writing in discussing his early days and the boxing booths.

The book tends to jump between first voice, period writing and extracts from newspapers, a characteristic that can leave the reader somewhat confused as to the source of the words in front of him.
