Book review: Ghosts of Manila

I count myself as one of the millions of Muhammad Ali fans, for me he’s the greatest sportsman of all time.

But this brutal book about his most vicious fight will lead even his most ardent fan to question their idol.

Ali’s third epic battle with Joe Frazier – the so-called Thrilla in Manila – took sport to places that it should never go.

And produced a bout that was arguably the greatest fight in history.

Author Kram perhaps goes too far in his desire to reassess the Ali legend, but his thesis is one that needs to be read.
