- Jeremy Schaap, Cinderella Man(London, 2005)
Billed as ‘the book which inspired the major motion picture starring Russell Crowe’, this work does much more.
It is a sure-footed journey through one of the most iconic eras in boxing history, telling the tale of James J Braddock’s remarkable journey to the world heavyweight crown.
It also presents a much fairer presentation of the character of Braddock’s opponent, Max Baer, the hugely likeable clown prince who was so unfairly presented as the pantomime villain in the Crowe movie.
Unfortunately for Welsh boxing fans there is no mention in the text of the ‘Tonypandy Terror’ Tommy Farr, who fought both Braddock and Baer.
